Ohio High School Athletic Association's (OHSAA-Tennis)

The OHSAA Tennis State Championship showcases the best players from the state. Drew Evans and Tucker Berry will represent St. Xavier in the boys doubles competition. They are a pair that recently defeated Beavercreek. Their match at Friday's state championship will be their first. The event will take places at the Lindner Family Tennis Center close to Kings Island.

Ben Pomeranets wins the state championship in boys tennis

Ben Pomeranets (Orange High School) won the boys' tennis state championship in Mason. He defeated defending state champion Andrew Zimcosky, a senior from Chagrin Falls. The Pomeranets defeated Zimcosky in three consecutive sectional and district tournaments, before reaching the state finals. In the semifinals, Pomeranets defeated Legacy Christian's Tucker Culpepper. Pomeranets won two more games after losing the first set to win the state title.

Senior West Virginia recruit scored 28 point, grabbed nine rebounds, and had three assists during overtime in the state final. He also had 20 points in the semifinal win over Anthony Wayne. He is a West Virginia recruiting prospect and went 33-4 this season.

The OHSAA in Ohio is a nonprofit, unincorporated organization that governs high schools athletic programs. It organizes state championships in all sports. The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSSAA) has been sanctioning tennis since its inception. OHSAA also recognizes individual winners.


The Div. IV State Championships. The state championships will take place Saturday, June 4, at 7 pm in Strongsville. You can also find regional tournaments at various locations in the state.

OHSAA Tennis tournaments are organized in bracket format. Each semifinal winner from each bracket plays the other semifinalist. Third place will be decided by the losers in both semifinals. These tournaments are a great way for players to show off their skills and get recruited by colleges. The Ohio High School Athletic Association will vote on 14 proposed amendments for its constitution and bylaws. Three of the issues have already been approved by the board of directors, and one issue is still to be decided. These changes will go into effect for the 2022-1923 school year and are expected to take effect on May 16.

The changes would allow high school athletes to commercially capitalize on their name, image and likeness. This would allow high-school athletes to sign endorsement agreements while still keeping their amateur status. However, the OHSAA has been quick to point out that the proposed changes would not have affected athletes' athletic eligibility.
